Autumn came and went, green leaves in place of gold.
But the truth of the oak still stands, braving the wind, sun and rain.
Just as a memory left is a memory made immortal.
Just as a friend who has parted is a friend who, in our memories, never did.

I had received news earlier of the passing of a long time friend. I contracted a hint of sadness as I did of the passing of my aging relatives and would of dear friends, but beyond that, I found the news as disturbing as it was unexpected. I think it is because 'death' at our age is a concept I am reluctant to grasp.

I had written the ode in honour of the late, but more than that, as consolation for friends who seek it.
May you have peace and long life.
